Cradling – ‘Parting’ Exclusive Video

Cradling, formerly Uesa Guilbe, is comprised of John and Davis. We filmed them on 4/20/10, yeah I know, in Davis’ Capitol Hill home. The filming of this video was less of a routine filming, and more of a gin-infused hangout; a hangout that took us well into the night and culminated with the band banging out songs in Davis’ kitchen. Press play and relive the day for yourself, with a soundtrack! Below I have posted some additional tracks from Cradling’s upcoming release, ‘Wild Runner’, which will be coming out this summer on Patient Sounds Silent Farm Recordings.

Mouth Breathers – Luke Temple Mouth Breathers

(Photo of Dave with his daughter Hazel)

Dave is a friend that I spend more time with than anyone else in my life. We are co-workers at a social marketing firm downtown and sit directly across from each other in an office of two. Awkward right? On the contrary, as Dave has taken it upon himself to soothe the awkward silence with the smooth sounds of Steely Dan,The Doobie Brothers, and sometimes when we are feeling crazy, a little Peter Cetera. Based off of this pacified playlist you may be shocked to learn that Dave used to be a fairly large player in the Northwest music scene. Dave founded the indie promotions company Nice Promo. If you worked in college music between 2003-2006 you may remember being called by Dave. He was the college promoter–with the great library of musicians– who wasn’t an asshole. One artist in particular that Dave worked and turned me onto is Luke Temple.

Luke Temple is now in the band Here We Go Magic (Secretly Canadian / Western Vinyl), but got his start in 2005 when he submitted a four song self-titled EP as a demo to Seattle’s Mill Pond Records. As Dave worked Luke’s first record he was able to share a couple tracks from the original demo EP with me to post to the blog. The last song is not one of the demo tracks. It is one of my favorite songs from Luke’s current band Here We Go Magic.

Cable Griffith – ‘At the Edge of Town’ Exclusive Video

In December 2009 Camp Revival met with artist Cable Griffith in his Ballard home to plan our first frame by frame animation. Outside the setting was gray, cold and lifeless. Inside we were surrounded by warm and spirited landscapes. Beside thick glass pyramids and aerial views, reminiscent of the Nintendo worlds of our childhood, we flipped on our flood lights and soaked the large, blank canvas with white light. Before the painting process began Cable invited us into his personal garage bar: “The Rusty Barnacle”. After a couple drinks and good conversation we bid Cable adieu and left him to his craft. A week later Cable emerged from his basement and presented us with ‘At the Edge of Town’. Enjoy!

Under 50 – Dominique Young Unique Under 50

Her name sums her up. Dominique is young, 18 years old, and is making the most unique hip hop / grime / house inspired dope ass music that has seized my ears in quite some time. Based out of Tampa FL, Dominique works with producer Hard Feelings (Yo! Majesty) to create her complex, yet fluid music. Dominique has a natural talent as an mc. The meters that Hard Feelings throws at Dominique are not standard, thank god, and Dominique floats over them like a seasoned veteran. I am very excited to see what the future holds for Dominque. Maybe I should ask her, because her sound tells me she is already living there. Push play on this shit, and I dare you not to dance.

Under 50 – Volcano! Under 50

Volcano! makes music that manipulates the mind and body. I’m not sure what strange practice of hypnosis these men studied, perhaps jazz, but every time I hear “Africa Just Wants to Have Fun” I end up breaking something. Volcano! is based out of Chicago, IL and is made up of Aaron With, Sam Scranton and Mark Cartwright. The group has been around since 2003, so this music is not new by any means. With that written it doesn’t detract from the fact that the music is incredible and I felt compelled to write about it. Having stalked the group’s oddly abundant number of social networking sites it looks like there is new music from this group on the horizon. Stay tuned here.

Shit Show – Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band Shit Show

On January 12, 2010, Camp Revival sat down with Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band to chortle with them over their worst show experiences. Above is a video of the band commiserating over a brutal show that they played in December 2008 at The Independent in San Francisco, CA.

ALSO, I was privileged enough to hear a couple songs off of their upcoming album. Blew. My. Mind.
