Mouth Breathers – The Hoot Hoots Mouth Breathers

Danny and I used to work together. I really enjoyed working with Danny because we shared an appreciation for cursing and granola bars.

Then Danny quit.

I know Danny is off doing better things which is well and good, but what an asshole. Now, I feel much more awkward about cursing in front of day care groups and talking to customers with my mouth full of some organic snack. Danny, come back. You know how much I hate being productive and professional.

Danny recommended I listen to The Hoots Hoots

and I had planned on featuring them quite some time ago. But because Danny is a co-founder of Hoot House Productions who produce The Hoots Hoots, I decided to wait on it a bit. Danny is co-founder of Hoot Hoot Productions, so I was concerned it might appear as if we at Camp Revival only promote our friends. But Danny isn’t my friend. He betrayed me, so there is no conflict of interest in my sharing The Hoots Hoots.

Hoot Hooters Adam Prairie, Chris Prairie, Leah Julius, Geoff Brown, and Christina Ellis know how to make a good song. A hearty foundation, splashy percussion to get you out of your seat, a smattering of funky guitar and synthesizer riffs, topped off with some smooth and sweet vocals. Plus, any reference to Calvin and Hobbes is as good as gold to me. Take The Hoots Hoots for a spin. And then go see them Monday June 7th at New Crompton in Seattle.

And if you see Danny there, tell him I am hurt.

Under 50 – Larry Gus Under 50

Summer is upon us. It truly is. It might not feel like it, but we know great things are about to happen. Hollywood blockbusters, sweltering festivals, and cut off shorts. To be honest, I am most excited for cut offs and Larry Gus. Larry Gus is Panagiotis Melidis whose new album Stitches just came out on Cast-A-Blast Records. Panagiotis emailed us to say that he is “just a guy from Greece… living in Barcelona working on The Freesound Project.” I think Panagiotis is more than just a guy, he is the sound of summer. His audio snippets are going to be blaring from my battery operated boom box while I bike to the beach. Watch his videos, you’ll be doing the same thing.

Under 50 – Summer Twins Under 50

June is so close. As the rainy Seattle spring continues to flirt with summer I find myself drawn more and more toward bright, sun-washed music. It was the Summer Twins‘ video for their song ‘The Good Things’ that nailed that unobtainable summer feeling that I am seeking.

From what I have gleaned from their Myspace site, sorry if that sounds creepy, Summer Twins are Chelsea and Justine Brown. Live they are supported by Angelo Anderson and Marcio Rivera. What makes this band special to me is their combination of beautiful vocals and rough, yet incredibly tasteful, guitar melodies. It looks like they have a show Memorial Day weekend, so all of you Riverside, CA folks should get out and support them.

Mouth Breathers – Good Luck

Oliver is a friend of mine who is one of the most passionate people I’ve ever met when it comes to music and people and people who play music. When he is not busy with other folks’ music or booking awesome shows within the Denver DIY scene, Oliver plays music on his own. Living in Denver, he has played in many bands himself: Ate by Animals, Papa Bear, the Fainting Fansies, Mehko & Ocean Birds, and Henry Sugar, and those are just the ones I know. A couple weeks ago, he called me proposing a show called Wizard Prom, which was also a benefit for a local art program, for a band from Bloomington, Indiana.

This band is Good Luck. They are a three-piece pop punk band – Matt Tobey, Ginger Alford, Mike Harpring Jr. – and they sound like the nineties, but better. They have played in many bands together, coming across as some sort of like-minded Arts and Crafts collective. They moved to Bloomington before starting Good Luck in 2007.

With several posts on If You Make It (home of the Pink Couch sessions) and some national touring under their belts, they have developed quite the internet presence. Their music is available for download and purchase at the band’s Myspace or Bandcamp pages. The band’s full-length Into Lake Griffy was released on vinyl through No Idea Records.

The band will be playing in Seattle on Saturday May 22 at Healthy Times Fun Club (with Megabog, Agatha, and A Million Years Ago) and in Olympia on Sunday May 23 at Northern All Ages Project (with Kimya Dawson and Your Heart Breaks).
